COLOMBO (News 1st): Lunch sheets made of non-biodegradable polythene will be banned from tomorrow (01), The Minister of Environment, Mahinda Amaraweera states.
The Minister said that the manufacture, transportation, and the sale of all types of lunch sheets made out of non-biodegradable plastic will be banned in the country from tomorrow onwards.
Moreover, joint raids will be conducted by the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), the Consumer Affairs Authority, and Sri Lanka Police to apprehend those who continue to manufacture, transport, or sell such products from tomorrow as well, Minister Amaraweera added.
The Environment Minister emphasized that the decision was reached taking into account the adverse effects to the environment and the health of the public due to non-biodegradable lunch sheets.
