COLOMBO (News 1st): The Government Nursing Officers Association will stage a protest campaign from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Wednesday (Jul. 28) at all hospitals across the island.
“The protest campaign will be conducted over the failure of the authorities to publish the gazette notification pertaining to the promotions of nursing officers,” Saman Rathnapriya, the President of the Government Nursing Officers Association told News 1st.
According to Rathnapriya, the protests will be conducted at around 100 main hospitals island-wide.
The Nursing Trade Unions conducted a strike action on the 1st and 2nd of July this year, following the failure of the discussions with the government and the Ministry of Health to resolve 09-key issues related to the nursing service.
Following the strike action, a cabinet paper was submitted with regard to promotions in the nursing service, which was approved by the cabinet; accordingly, it was forwarded to the Ministry of Public Administration and the Public Service Commission.
“However, the circulars pertaining to the respective cabinet paper are yet to be published,” Saman Rathnapriya, the President of the Government Nursing Officers Association pointed out.
