COLOMBO (News 1st); Member of Parliament Harin Fernando was summoned to the Criminal Investigations Department to re-record a statement with respect to comments made on the 2019 April 21st Attacks.

Fernando was accompanied to the CID by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and several other MPs from the Samagi Jana Balavegaya.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told reporters that summoning MP Harin Fernando is yet another chapter of hunting down opposition lawmakers.

He called on the government to fulfill its promise to prosecute the real perpetrators responsible for the 2019 April 21st Attacks, rather than hunting down opposition MPs.

'Investigations must be based on the group responsible for the henious attacks and who supported them including the mastermind or masterminds,' said Sajith Premadasa on Wednesday (28).

'What is the wrong committed by MP Harin Fernando?. All he did was request the government to fulfill its promises on the investigations regarding the 2019 April 21st Attacks,' he said.

The opposition leader urged the government to stop hunting down Members of Parliament and direct its efforts to hunt down those responsible for the 2019 April 21st Attacks.

Sri Lanka’s Attorney General’s Department told the Supreme Court on 14th July that MP Harin Fernando will not be arrested until the 01st of September with respect to the incidents surrounding the 2019 April 21st Attacks.

The assurance was given by Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris when a Fundamental Rights application filed by the MP was called up at the Supreme Court on that day.

Fernando had filed an FR application seeking an order to prevent his arrest with respect to the incidents surrounding the 2019 April 21st Attacks.
