COLOMBO (News 1st): President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has extended his confidence before world leaders that other countries too will be encouraged through Sri Lanka's effort to adapt Organic Agriculture in order to ensure the food security and nourishment of future generations. The Head of State shared these remarks whilst addressing the virtual pre-summit of the United Nations Food Systems Summit 2021, which commenced in Rome, Italy on Monday (Jul. 26). The Pre-Summit of the UN Food Systems Summit will set the stage for the culminating global event in September by bringing together diverse actors from around the world to leverage the power of food systems to deliver progress on all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the leadership of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the 03-day Pre-Summit brings together youth, farmers, indigenous communities, civil society, researchers, private sector, policy leaders, and ministers of agriculture, environment, health, nutrition, and finance, among other participants. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how we all share one world that is deeply connected, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had said in his address to the virtual summit. Whilst pointing out that despite the various social, political, and economic problems the world face, all global challenges are universal, President Rajapaksa called on the world leaders to work collectively to overcome these challenges.
