COLOMBO (News 1st): The State Minister of Women and Child Development, Preschools & Primary Education, School Infrastructure & Education Services has introduced a new mechanism that must be followed with regard to the recruitment of individuals for domestic work.
Those who wish to be employed as domestic workers or those who are already engaged in domestic work must register with Divisional Secretariats in the respective area of residence, Subject Minister Piyal Nishantha De Silva said on Saturday (Jul. 24).
“Children are being forced into domestic work given the lack of a proper recruitment procedure with regard to domestic work. Accordingly, a mechanism has been introduced to be followed when recruiting females for domestic work,” State Minister Piyal Nishantha De Silva told News 1st.
As per the new mechanism, those who wish to engage in domestic work must register with the respective Divisional Secretariats, under the supervision of the respective Grama Niladharis, Women Development Officers, and Child Rights Promotion Officers.
State Minister Piyal Nishantha was hopeful that through this registration process, a clear procedure could be implemented in the future to ensure that Children are not forced into domestic work.
“This new mechanism will be strictly implemented,” Piyal Nishantha De Silva, the State Minister of Women and Child Development stressed.
