Rishad Bathiudeen's wife & father-in-law arrested over death of 16-year-old girl

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested the wife of Ex-Minister Rishad Bathudeen, the Ex-Minister's father-in-law and another person over the death of a 16-year-old girl who was employed as a domestic aide at the residence of Bathiudeen.

The Borella Police Divisional Children and Women's Bureau as well as the Colombo South Divisional Crimes Detective Bureau jointly conducted investigations in to the death of the girl, said Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana on Friday (23).

20 statements were recorded by detectives and they collected scientific, circumstantial, scientific and technical evidence with regard to the death, he added.

Further, detectives considered the contents of the post-mortem report and it was revealed that the suspects committed offenses under the Section 360 (C) of the Penal Code (Human Trafficking) and Section 308 (B) of the Penal Code (Cruelty to Children).

The third suspect is considered as the person who engaged in trafficking the victim, said the Police Spokesperson.

The suspects will be produced in court in terms of the Criminal Procedure Code and according to the law if a Superintendent of Police submits a B Report to the court, the Police can obtain a 72-hour detention order against the suspects and Sri Lanka Police seek to obtain such an order for further investigations, he added.
