Around 30% of Colombo's COVID cases are infected with Delta variant

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Health Ministry has warned that around 20% to 30% of the COVID-19 cases reported from the Colombo District are those infected with the Delta COVID variant.

Deputy Director-General of Public Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath speaking to News 1st said on Monday (19) said that the general public must take necessary precautions.

At present COVID-19 patients with the Delta variant have been detected from Colombo, Matara, Galle, Jaffna and Killinochchi Districts, he said.

Dr. Herath said it is not possible to release an accurate number of Delta COVID cases in the country as tests are carried out on random COVID cases.

'The Delta variant may have spread to other districts in the country,' he added.
