3,009 suspects arrested during weekend operation by Police

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested 3,009 suspects during a special weekend operation in connection to multiple malpractices.

The operation involved 14,927 Police Officers & 52 Police K-9 Units, said Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana.

431 suspects were arrested on suspicion for their links to crimes while 645 suspects were arrested on warrants.

98 other suspects were connected for various crimes and 1,250 suspects were in connection to the possession of dangerous drugs and illicit alcohol.

Further, another 05 suspects were arrested for illegal firearms possession from Anuradhapura, Ampara, Trincomalee, Embilipitiya, and Galle areas.

In addition, 580 drunk drivers were arrested while 5,664 traffic violations were detected during this operation.
