China to donate another 1.6 Mn Sinopharm vaccine doses

COLOMBO (News 1st); China has decided to donate another 1.6 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine to Sri Lanka in coming weeks to help further speed up the island's Vaccination Drive, tweeted the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka.

Incidentally, 1.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine will reach Sri Lanka on Friday (16), said State Minister (Professor) Channa Jayasumana.

The U.S. is sending more than 1.5 million doses of Moderna Inc.’s coronavirus vaccine to Sri Lanka, the latest shipment as President Joe Biden begins sharing the American stockpile of shots.

The doses will arrive in Sri Lanka on Friday (16) and are being sent through Covax, the global vaccine procurement initiative intended to secure inoculations for low- and middle-income nations, according to a White House statement.
