COLOMBO (News 1st); A Habeas Corpus Petition was filed with the Court of Appeal on Monday (12) by Activist Duminda Nagamuwa's wife seeking an order be made to produce her husband in court and to release him.
The Habeas Corpus Petition notes that Duminda Nagamuwa was forcibly taken away for quarantine by Sri Lanka Police despite being granted bail by the court.
Habeas Corpus Petition noted that 08 people including Duminda Nagamuwa were arrested by the Slave Island Police during a protest on the 07th of July, and they were enlarged on bail by the court.
Dulani Priyangika, the petitioner pointed out that 06 people including her husband are currently held at the Pallekele Quarantine Facility based on the quarantine guidelines issued by the Director-General of Health Services.
She noted that her husband is being held at the facility despite the PCR returning a negative test result for COVID-19.
The Inspector-General of Police, The Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province, the Attorney General as well as the Director-General of Health Services were named as respondents among others.
