Police intervene to disperse protest against KDU bill

COLOMBO (News1st): The police intervened to disperse a protest organized by the Inter-University Students Federation today. The protest was staged near the Parliament opposing the John Kotelawala Defense University Bill However, the Police who were present before the protest began, arrested the protesters for violating quarantine regulations. 33 civil and political activists were arrested by the Mirihana and Thalangama police. A tense situation then arose between the police officers and journalists at the location. The suspects were produced before the Aluthkade Magistrate's court this afternoon, on personal bails of Rs. 25 000 each.
