Wedding party of 20 quarantined at home: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) ordered 20 people who organised and attended a wedding in violation of the COVID-19 health guidelines, to undergo mandatory quarantine in Panadura, Sri Lanka Police said. "Panadura-North Police conducted a raid jointly with the health authorities in the Pallamulla area where a wedding was being conducted at a residence in violation of the COVID-19 health guidelines. Police will institute legal action against the group under the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Disease Ordinance, once they complete the quarantine period as ordered by the Public Health Inspectors," Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Tuesday (Jun. 30). According to the COVID-19 health guidelines published by the Director-General of Health Services on the 20th of June 2021, public gatherings such as domestic parties are strictly prohibited. However, registrations in respect of marriages are permitted with the participation of 10 people including the bride and the groom; whereas, weddings are prohibited.
