COLOMBO (News 1st); Death-Row inmates who were protesting at the Mahara and Welikada Prisons have decided to call off their hunger strike and protest on Wednesday (30).
According to Prisons Commissioner & Spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake, the prisoners decided to call off their hunger strike and protest following talks.
The Death-Row inmates were demanding that the authorities scale down their death sentences to life imprisonment.
Earlier, the Prisons Department said the prisoners who were protesting atop rooftops of prison buildings will not be considered in the program to grant pardons.
