Three arrested over murder of an Exorcist: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Divisional Crime Detective Bureau of Nugegoda Division (DCDB-Nugegoda) arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a 54-year-old Exorcist, whose body was found floating in the Kelani river. The body of a male with limbs bound was discovered floating in the Kelani River in the Nawagamuwa Police area on Saturday (Jun. 26). "Nawagamuwa Police launched investigations into the death of an Exorcist who was living on rent in Ambulgama, Hanwella. Thereafter, the investigation was taken over by the DCDB-Nugegoda. Thereby, DCDB-Nugegoda arrested three suspects including one female in connection with the murder," Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Tuesday (Jun. 29). According to Senior DIG Ajith Rohana, the female suspect has been identified as the victim's lover, who was living with him at the Ambulgama residence. "The main suspect is a 49-year-old resident of Palugaswewa area in Horiwila; he has been identified as the paramour of the victim's lover," the Police Spokesperson noted. Another 33-year-old resident of Pitipana, Homagama was arrested as the accomplice to the murder. All three suspects will be produced at the Homagama Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (Jun. 29), and DCDB-Nugegoda will conduct further investigations. "Based on the investigation, information has come to light that the victim's lover, the 41-year-old female suspect had an affair with the main suspect behind the murder. Accordingly, the murder has been committed as a result of the affair," Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana elaborated. The DCDB-Nugegoda had recovered a motorcycle and a hammer that was used by the perpetrators to commit the murder.
