COLOMBO (News 1st): The revision process of the 2021 Electoral Register has commenced, the National Elections Commission (NEC) said.
However, the revision applications pertaining to the Electoral Register will not be sent to houses separately, taking into account the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country, Attorney-at-Law Nimal Punchihewa, the Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC) told News 1st on Tuesday (Jun. 22).
As such, the respective Grama Niladhari will update the information of the Electoral Register, instead of sending the revision applications to houses.
According to the National Elections Commission, under the usual procedure, the annual revision of the Electoral Register concludes by August every year.
However, given the prevailing COVID-19 situation, the revision of the Electoral Register could be delayed this year, Attorney-at-Law, Nimal Punchihewa, the Chairman of the NEC pointed out.
