Truck driver shot dead by cop opposite State Minister's residence

COLOMBO (News 1st); One person was shot dead in Sannanurani in the Batticaloa Police area on Monday (21), said Sri Lanka Police.

Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said a police constable who was providing security to the residence of State Minister S. Viyalendran had opened fire at a person who was identified as the driver of a sand transporting tipper truck.

The Police Constable was arrested and his weapon was seized, said the Police Spokesperson.

Investigations revealed that a dispute arose between the deceased and the police constable several days ago and the murder was the result of the dispute.

State Minister Viyalendran was not at home when the incident took place.
