Cop arrested for trafficking 52 kg of heroin, interdicted

COLOMBO (News 1st); A Police Sub-Inspector who was arrested by the Crimes Preventive Division of Police Headquarters for trafficking drugs was interdicted on Saturday (19) afternoon.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said the Crimes Preventive Division of Police HQ carried out a special anti-narcotic operation on Friday (18) night in the Southern Province.

"The operation took place in Baddegama, Ahangama, Hikkaduwa and Galle," he said adding that the CPD was tasked with following-up on a intel received by the Senior DIG in-charge of preventing crimes and organized crimes.

Three people, including a police sub-inspector attached to the Kalutara South Police Station, were arrested for transporting 52 kilograms of heroin during the operation.

CPD also seized two vehicles, said DIG Ajith Rohana.
