COLOMBO (News 1st): A record 1,027 people were arrested in a 24-hour window that ended on Saturday morning (Jun. 08), for offences related to quarantine rules and regulations such as wearing face masks and maintaining social distances, Sri Lanka Police said. "Accordingly, 30,042 people have been arrested so far for the violation of quarantine regulations, since the 30th October 2020, to date," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Saturday (Jun. 12). According to the Deputy Police Chief, seven suspects were arrested for violation of quarantine rules and regulations, during a special drone surveillance operation was conducted in the Sinhapura area of the Thalangama Police area on Friday (Jun. 11). Furthermore, 3153 passengers were inspected at the 14 roadblocks covering the entry and exit points of the Western Province; 91 people who attempted to cross the provincial borders in violation of the travel restriction were admonished, the Police Spokesperson noted. "No public gatherings such as parties are permitted whilst the quarantine regulations are in effect," Deputy Police Chief emphasized.
