University of Vavuniya established via extra-gazette

COLOMBO (News 1st): The extraordinary gazette declaring the establishment of the University of Vavuniya was issued on Tuesday (Jun. 08). Accordingly, the University of Vavuniya becomes the 17 State University in Sri Lanka. The University of Vavuniya consists of the Faculty of Business Studies, Faculty of Applied Science, and Faculty of Technological Studies, Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) told News 1st on Wednesday (Jun. 09). The gazette was issued by Minister of Education - Prof. G. L. Peiris in consultation with the University Grants Commission. Earlier, the University of Vavuniya was operated as the Vavuniya Campus under the Jaffna University.
