COLOMBO (News 1st): The inoculation of expectant mothers against the COVID-19 virus commences on Wednesday (Jun. 09) from the Piliyandala Medical Officer of Health (MOH) division. "The COVID-19 vaccine will be administered to expectant mothers with their consent," Dr. Chithramalee De Silva, the Director of Maternal and Child Health at the Family Health Bureau told News 1st on According to Dr. Chithramalee De Silva, the Ministry of Health reached the decision to inoculate expectant mothers following the death of several expectant mothers due to COVID-19, in the recent past. "The vaccination drive will be conducted targetting expectant mothers who are above the age of 35-years, and expectant mothers who suffer from complications such as High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Heart Diseases, and Kidney Diseases," Dr. Chithramalee De Silva further pointed out.
