COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police interdicted two police officers and launched an investigation over the death of a 48-year-old male who had died in hospital after he jumped off a moving vehicle following arrest.
Sri Lanka Police had arrested a 48-year-old male from Panadura North on Sunday (06) for the offense of violating the quarantine rules and regulations as well as the travel restrictions.
When the suspect was being escorted in the Police SUV to the Police Station he had jumped off the vehicle and was admitted to the hospital, said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana on Monday (07).
The suspect was enlarged by the Panadura Magistrate's Court on Sunday (06) evening, however, he passed away at 06:00 PM at the Panadura Hospital, he said.
The Police Sub-Inspector and Sergeant who made the arrest stated that that the suspect jumped out of the moving vehicle.
The Police Sub-Inspector and Sergeant were interdicted by the SSP of Panadura for negligence in their duties, said the Police Spokesperson.
