COLOMBO (News 1st): Very Heavy Falls exceeding 150 mm are likely some places today (Jun 03), the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at the Department of Meteorology said. In an 'Advisory for Heavy Rain' issued at 1:00 AM today (June 03), the Met Department noted that the prevailing showery condition in the South-western parts of the country (particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts) is expected to continue further. The districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle and Kandy have been identified as the high-risk zones. The weather advisory is valid until 8:30 AM tomorrow. According to the Met Department, the highest rainfall of 215.5 mm was recorded from Ingiriya in Kalutara. Meanwhile, the low-lying areas in Ingiriya, Horana, Madurawala, and Milleniya along the banks of the Kalu river could be inundated due to inclement weather, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said on Thursday morning (Jun 03).
