Expert committee to study administering Sputnik jab

COLOMBO (News1st): An expert committee has recommended the Ministry of Health to assess the possibility of administering the first dose of the Sputnik vaccine as the second dose to those who have been inoculated with the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. "They said the recommendation was done since they had observed similarities between the jabs. We have therefore directed our attention towards the matter," Professor Channa Jayasumana the State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals said. Meanwhile, Prof. Jayasumana added that 1 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine will be released from the manufacturer on the 6th of June. "We intend to take delivery of around 2 million doses of Sinopharm vaccines within the month of July. We also expect to take delivery of a consignment of Sputnik vaccines as well during the month of June," he said.
