Indian fungal disease is not found in Sri Lanka: Ministry of Health

COLOMBO (News 1st) The fungal infection detected in the Ampara District, is not similar to the black fungus infection detected in India, the Health Ministry said. A 35-year old COVID-19 infected individual from Ampara had been admitted to the Ampara Hospital on the 4th of May after being infected with the fungal infection. A PCR Test conducted on the patient returned positive, and the patient was transferred to a COVID-19 treatment facility. The patient passed away on the 14th of May. Further tests are being carried out into this fungal infection, the Deputy Director-General of Health Services - Dr. Hemantha Herath said. The final results of these tests are likely to be published tomorrow, he added.
