COLOMBO (News 1st): The required amount of vaccines to administer the second dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca jab to those who received the first jab will be received soon, the Deputy Director-General of Health Services said on Saturday (May 22).
“Based on information received, we strongly believe that we could obtain the required doses of the COVISHIELD jab very soon, to administer the second dose. However, I cannot confirm a definite date on when the doses will be received. Even vaccine suppliers are unable to provide definite information on the matter,” Dr. Hemanth Herath, the Deputy Director-General of Health Services pointed out.
As a result of the prevailing COVID-19 situation, the operation of flights to facilitate the delivery of vaccine consignments remains uncertain, elaborated Dr. Herath adding that, “Therefore, the companies that import vaccines cannot confirm a definite schedule.”
