414 people arrested on Thursday (20) for violating quarantine regulations

COLOMBO (News 1st); 414 people were arrested on Thursday (20) for failing to wear face masks and to follow the quarantine rules and regulations.

In total 11,320 people arrested by Sri Lanka Police for the aforementioned offenses from the 30th of October 2020, said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana on Friday (21).

Sri Lanka Police also conducted a special operation in the Western Province on Thursday (20) and 9,265 people were inspected on their compliance with the quarantine rules and regulations.

2,590 people were admonished by Sri Lanka Police for failing to wear the face mask in a proper manner while 94 people were arrested and enlarged on bail for failing to wear the face mask.

However, they will be prosecuted in court under the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance.

Further, a total of 2,250 vehicles were inspected at 14 entry and exit points of the Western Province said the Police Spokesperson adding 140 people were turned back from the Western Province border for failing to prove the reason to cross the provincial border.
