Port City Bill will open new avenues for development: Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st): Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dinesh Gunawardena on Wednesday (May 19) said the Colombo Port City project, which was presented as a special national project and dragged on for a prolonged period, will be passed opening a new avenue of development for the country. "The Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill will open a new gateway for Sri Lanka's economy at a global scale," he said. According to Minister Gunawardena, the government had continuously stated that based on the Supreme Court determination on the matter, the Port City Economic Commission Bill will be subjected to amendments as advised, prior to being passed in parliament. "When facing any kind of challenge, when creating new avenues, when opening new economic gateways, and when progressing the country towards new hope, we will continue to move ahead with the public mandate to pass this bill with determination," Minister Dinesh Gunawardena further noted on Wednesday (19). He went onto note, "With the leadership of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, our government will continue to work with confidence to protect the lives of the people."
