Debate on Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill today (19)

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Parliamentary debate on the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill begins on Wednesday (May 19), and it is scheduled to continue on Thursday (May 20) as well. According to parliamentary sources, arrangements have been made to hold a vote on the bill on Thursday (20) evening. The Supreme Court determination on the constitutionality of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill was tabled in parliament on Tuesday (May 18). According to the Supreme Court determination, 25 articles of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill are inconsistent with the constitution, and it can only be passed with a Special Majority and a Referendum. Meanwhile, the Cabinet of Ministers which convened on Tuesday evening (18) approved the proposal to update the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill with amendments presented by the Supreme Court.
