COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has decided to suspend the party membership of Ukuwela Pradeshiya Sabha member Erandika Kumari alleged to have assaulted a Grama Niladhari Officer.
SLPP General Secretary Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam in a statement said the assault had taken place when the government's program to provide relief to people affected by COVID-19 was implemented on the 16th of May.
The SLPP is conducting a separate investigation into the incident.
SLPP General Secretary Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam said Erandika Kumari will not be permitted to represent the SLPP at any Pradeshiya Sabha program until further notice.
The suspect was arrested by Police and released on bail by the Matale Magistrate's Court.
