COLOMBO (News 1st): Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, requested the Muslim community to apply religious values which are meaningful by Ramazan fasting for the benefit of others, during a time where the whole world is facing a pandemic.
“Islamic people who were taught correct religious teachings have worked in mutual friendship with other races and religions in the Sri Lankan community throughout history” Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s message to mark the festival of Eid al-Fitr issued on Friday (May 14) read.
The Prime Minister further noted that possessing the correct idea about the hunger of others through fasting will make Islamic devotees focus on a charitable society.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa urged for religious traditions associated with Ramazan to be celebrated and fulfilled in adherence to COVID-19 guidelines.
“My salutations to all the Islam devotees who have worked to fulfill religious rituals from their homes, making sure that they do not gather in large crowds at mosques for worshiping, respecting the health advice during the fasting period,” Prime Minister Rajapaksa said.
