Presidential Task Force to transform SL into Green Socio-Economy

COLOMBO (News 1st): President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed a Presidential Task Force to transform the country into a green socio-economy, the President's Media Division said on Tuesday (May 11). The "Presidential Task Force on Creating a Green Sri Lanka with Sustainable Solutions to Climate Change," is headed by Special Representative to the President, Basil Rajapaksa. It was appointed with the objective of achieving a number of goals, including mobilizing the people to adopt an eco-friendly socio-economic pattern, the President's Media Unit noted. Accordingly, one of the main responsibilities of this Presidential Task Force is to prepare the roadmap for the complete transition of the agriculture sector from the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and weedicides, to the use of organic fertilizer products. The 'Presidential Task Force on Creating a Green Sri Lanka with Sustainable Solutions to Climate Change' will focus on 24 other issues filed in order to protect the environment, the PMD noted. The task force consists of 46 members, including five Cabinet Ministers, 14 State Ministers, a Member of Parliament, and a Governor. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa presented a memorandum to the Cabinet of Ministers on the 27th of April 2021, for Sri Lanka to adopt a green socio-economic model with a sustainable solution to climate change, the President's Media Division noted.
