COLOMBO (News 1st); All trips, weekend getaways, and visiting relatives in another province will be prohibited with effect from Tuesday (11) to the 31st of May 2021 as Inter-Province Travel Restrictions will come into effect from midnight on Tuesday, said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.

In addition leave for all police officers was cancelled with immediate effect to the 31st of May, he said.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to reporters in Colombo said Police Officers as well as Police Special Task Force personnel, as well as the military, will be deployed at the borders of every province.

However, essential services including health, security, water, communication, electricity, media and related services, judicial services, etc will continue to operate without disrupting the daily lives of the people within each provice.

Essential service personnel can move to a separate province for official duties after undergoing an inspection at the border of the respective province.”If one uses a by-road to evade detection as the border of a provice to enter another provice, he or she will be considered as a law-breaker and will be prosecuted under the quarantine regulations and the criminal law,” said the Police Spokesperson.

People living in isolated areas are not permitted to exit while outsiders are not permitted to enter the area, said the Police Spokesperson.

He further said that Office/Official ID can be used as a pass to move between provinces ONLY for essential service duties.
