COLOMBO (News 1st); No decision was reached to impose an island-wide lockdown, said Army Commander General Shavendra Silva on Monday (10).

However, travel restrictions between provinces may be imposed in the next few days, said the Army Commander who is also the Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

“Although travel restrictions are imposed, measures will be taken ensure there is a smooth flow of essential services for the benefit of the public,” said the Army Commander.

He further said the military will be deployed to expedite the vaccination process in the country, and vaccination programs will take place in areas where there is a spike in COVID-19 cases.
