COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police on Thursday (May 06) arrested a record 436 people for the failure to follow quarantine regulations such as wearing face masks and maintaining social distances. "Sri Lanka Police are conducting continuous quarantine operations across the country. Yesterday (06) we have arrested 436 suspects in connection with the offences of face masks and social distancing. This is the highest number of suspects we have arrested within a period of 24-hours since the 30th of October 2020, to date," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Friday (May 07). According to the Deputy Police Chief, 5922 people have been arrested so far, for the violation of quarantine regulations, since 30th October 2020 to date. Whilst emphasizing that quarantine operations continue, DIG Ajith Rohana noted that police officers both in uniform and civil attire to ensure quarantine regulations are implemented.
