Council Member involved in Maharagama UC brawl, arrested

COLOMBO (News 1st); Maharagama Urban Council Member Nishantha Wimalachandra who was involved in an ugly brawl at the Urban Council premises on Thursday (06) was arrested by Sri Lanka Police on Friday (07).

He was arrested based on a complaint made by fellow Urban Council Member Savithri Gunasekera.

Thursday's (06) Maharagama Urban Council meeting turned ugly when a physical altercation broke out between the two Urban Council Members based on a video posted on Facebook.

The video in question was of an incident that had taken place at the Council Members meeting room, several days ago.

Sri Lanka Police said statements were recorded from 05 people over the incident.
