Attempted ATM robbery leaves security officer injured: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): A security officer who sustained gunshot wounds was hospitalized, following an attempted robbery reported at a private bank in Anuradhapura during ATM cash deposit on Thursday morning (May 06). Two suspects who arrived on a motorcycle had attempted to rob a sum of money that was brought by the respective bank employees for an ATM cash deposit at around 6:40 am on Thursday (May 06), Sri Lanka Police said. According to Police, the two suspects had shot the security officer on duty, after the attempted bank robbery failed before fleeing the scene. The injured security officer is receiving treatment at the Anuradhapura General Hospital. Investigations will be conducted with the use of CCTV footage to apprehend the suspects involved in the shooting, Police said.
