Wanted murder suspect 'Aliwatte Asitha' arrested: Police

COLOMBO (News 1st): A suspect who goes by the alias "Aliwatte Asitha" who is connected to various crimes including murder was arrested by Mattakkuliya Police on Tuesday (May 05), Sri Lanka Police said. "The suspect 'Aliwatte Asitha' is involved in various criminal activities committed in the Mutwal, Mattakkuliya, and Grandpass police jurisdictions," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st on Wednesday (May 05). According to the Deputy Police Chief, he has been identified as the chief suspect of a murder that took place on the 28th of April 2021 in the Mattakkuliya Police area. Following interrogation of the suspect, a hand grenade was recovered from his temporary residence located in the Wattala Police jurisdiction, DIG Ajith Rohana added. The 26-year-old suspect was produced at the Colombo Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (May 05) and was placed under remand custody. Further investigations are underway.
