COLOMBO (News 1st): The adjournment debate on the 'current situation in the country,' which commenced on Tuesday (May 04) will continue on Wednesday (05) from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, Secretary-General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake said. The Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on Tuesday (May 04) decided NOT to hold the debate on the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill today (05). The debate on the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill will NOT be held today, as the Speaker is yet to receive the determination of the Supreme Court with regard to the petitions filed challenging the bill, Dhammika Dasanayake further noted. Accordingly, the bill will be taken up for debate in the next Parliamentary session, once the Supreme Court determination on the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill is received. Today's parliamentary debate will be held without any suspension for lunch, Dhammika Dasanayake said. On the 30th of April, the Committee on Parliamentary Business decided to hold this week's parliamentary sessions only on the 4th and 5th of May, given the prevailing COVID-19 high-risk situation.
