COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested 215 people for failing to wear facemasks and maintain social distancing on Sunday (02), said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.

A total of 4,857 people were arrested for the said violations since the 30th of October 2020, he said adding Sri Lanka Police will conduct special operations to locate parties and other late-night events carried out in violation of the existing quarantine regulations. Individuals who organize such gatherings including dinner parties will be prosecuted said the Police Spokesperson. Sri Police inspected 1093 premises in the Western Province from 03 PM to 06 PM on Sunday (02) to inquire if the COVID preventive measures were followed. During the inspection 6326 people were subject to inspection and 38 of them were arrested for failing to wear facemasks and other regulations under the quarantine law. In addition, 06 people were arrested in terms of the provision of the Penal Code for selling food items without following the health guidelines. Another 12 people were arrested for attending parties, which are prohibited under the quarantine regulations. 4306 people were issued with warnings by Sri Lanka Police for failing to follow the necessary health guidelines, said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.
