COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Health has instructed all Hospital Directors to obtain Intensive Care Units (ICU) and wards reserved for general patients to treat the increasing number of COVID-19 patients, taking into account the spike in cases reported from all districts of the country, a top official at the Health Ministry said. "All Hospital Directors, Provincial Health Directors and District Directors of Health Services were instructed to prepare the ICUs and wards reserved for general patients to treat COVID-19 cases," Specialist Dr. Lal Panapitiya, the Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Health told News 1st on Friday (Apr. 30). Moreover, Hospital Directors have also been informed to ensure adequate supplies of medical Oxygen for COVID-19 patients. "If the need arises, of the Medical and Surgical ICUs, the Hospital Directors have been informed to use one ICU for general patients and the other for COVID-19 patients," Dr. Lal Panapitiya further noted.
