COVID-19: Record 969 positive cases on Friday (23)

COLOMBO (News 1st): A record 969 new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed in the country on Friday (Apr. 23), the Department of Government Information said. Of the total cases, 931 are associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and 38 are returnees from overseas, noted the Government Information Department. As such, the COVID-19 caseload in the country has now risen to 99,691. As of Saturday (Apr. 24), there are 5021 active patients receiving treatment, while 94,036 have recovered. The COVID-19 death toll in the country stands at 634. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 925,242 people have received the 1st dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
