COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Election Commission (NEC) has decided to temporarily deactivate the operations of six political parties, taking into account the fact that the said parties are now resorting to judicial proceedings as a result of internal conflicts, the Election Commission’s Chief said.
Legal issues have arisen due to the nomination of several individuals for the posts of Secretary and Chairman of these parties in question; thereby, these parties have resorted to legal action in order to resolve the relevant issues, Attorney-at-Law Nimal Punchihewa, the Chairman of the National Election Commission (NEC) told News 1st on Friday (Apr. 16).
When inquired by News 1st, the Chairman of the National Election Commission (NEC) said that the names of the parties in question cannot be disclosed as it was prejudicial to the relevant parties.
