Special transport services available from today for Avurudu

COLOMBO (News 1st): Special transport services will be available for people who are visiting their hometowns for the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year, authorities said. "21 additional train journeys will be available starting today, for the convenience of commuters," Gamini Seneviratne, the Superintendent of Railways told News 1st on Friday (Apr. 09). According to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), special long-distance transport services will also be available starting from Friday (Apr. 09) till the 20th of April in line with the festive season. "Around 200 additional buses will be added to service starting today for the convenience of the people visiting hometowns for the New Year season and to facilitate their return journeys to Colombo," Panduka Swarnahansa, the General Manager of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) told News 1st. These bus services will be available around the clock, including the SLTB transport services at expressways, he further noted. The number of long-distance private buses were increased adding the number of buses operating along the expressways were also increased in line with the festive season, the National Transport Commission (NTC) said.
