02 COVID-19 deaths on Thursday (08); fatalities rise to 593

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Director-General of Health Services confirmed that TWO (02) COVID-19 deaths were reported in the country on Thursday (Apr. 08), raising Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll to 593. The details of the deceased are as follows: 01. A 70-year-old male from Dehiwala. He was diagnosed as infected with COVID-19 virus while receiving treatment at Colombo-South Teaching Hospital and transferred to IDH, where he died on 08.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as heart attack, blood poisoning shock, high blood pressure, and Covid pneumonia. 02. A 79-year-old female from Kondavil. She died on 08.04.2021 while receiving treatment at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. The cause of death is mentioned as Chronic Kidney Disease complicated due to COVID-19 infection, blood poisoning, pneumonia, renal infection and diabetes. Meanwhile, another 309 new positive cases were reported on Thursday (Apr. 08), raising the COVID-19 caseload in the country to 94,336, the Department of Government Information said. As of Friday (Apr. 09) there are 2699 active patients receiving treatment, while 91,044 have recovered. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 151 people received the COVID-19 jab on Thursday (Apr. 08); and so far, 924,758 people have been vaccinated in the country.
