Colombo (News 1st); There is zero emphasis on ‘National Security’ in the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill, claimed Attorney-at-Law Dr Dilini Pathirana from the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo.
In an interview with News 1st’s Asoka Dias on Pathikada on Thursday (08) Dr. Pathirana said the main shortcoming in the bill is that attention is drawn towards national interest, but not on national security.
There is a vacuum about what action this commission can take when there is a threat to national security from the investments that come into the Colombo Port City, she said.
“One can say that national security is taken into consideration because the Commission has the right to scrutinize and accept or reject any investment proposal,” said Dr. Pathirana adding, however, there needs to definitely legislation on the matter.
“It is important to mention national security in this bill,” she stressed.
