Elections Commission awaits nomination for Ranjan’s vacant seat

Colombo (News 1st); The Elections Commission informed the Gampaha District Returning Officer to nominate a suitable person for the parliamentary seat left vacant by Ranjan Ramanayake.

Chairman of the Elections Commission Nimal Punchihewa speaking to News 1st said the Secretary-General of Parliament on Wednesday (07) informed the parliamentary seat of Ranjan Ramanayake is now vacant.

Accordingly, the Gampaha District Returning Officer would name the next-in-line in the Samagi Jana Balavegaya preferential vote list.

The Elections Chief said the nomination will be published via gazette in the next two days.

According to the results of the last Parliamentary Election, Ajith Mannapperuma leads the SJB preferential vote list from among those who were not elected to parliament, with 47,212 preferential votes.
