Colombo (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Standards Institute had failed to submit its annual reports to Parliament since 2016, it was revealed on Wednesday (07).
“The body which is empowered to inquire into the standards of all products has failed to submit its reports,” alleged MP Buddhika Pathirana.
Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena told Parliament that during the former administration annual reports from all state bodies were disregarded.
“This situation was in existence since 2015,” alleged the Minister adding annual reports from all state bodies must be called for by the Parliament.
“When I was with the government from 2015 to 2019, the then-speaker ordered for the annual reports to be submitted. However, the annual reports were never received and these state bodies appear to be powerful than the parliament,” said MP Buddhika Pathirana.
He called on the Speaker to follow up on the orders issued to the state bodies.
