Survey to determine locations of sand deposits in 06 rivers: GSMB

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) has commenced a survey regarding the locations of sand deposits in six rivers of Sri Lanka, its top official said. The survey will be conducted based on rivers such as Kalu, Kelani, and Deduru-Oya; the authorities hope to maximize the benefits of the sand deposits whilst ensuring that seawater does not enter the country, Anura Walpola, the Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) told News 1st. Through the survey, the GSMB is expecting to determine the exact locations of the sand deposits. The sand obtained from these deposits will be used for development activities in the country, including the construction of expressways.
