03 COVID-19 deaths on Thursday (01); Fatalities rise to 571

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Director-General of Health Services confirmed that THREE (03) COVID-19 deaths were reported in the country on Thursday (Apr. 01), raising Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll to 571. The details of the deceased are as follows: 01. A 80-year-old female from Katugastota. She died on 31.03.2021 while receiving treatment at Kandy National Hospital. The cause of death is mentioned as lung infection and Covid pneumonia. 02. A 80-year-old male from Eheliyagoda. He was diagnosed as infected with the COVID-19 virus while receiving treatment at Eheliyagoda Base Hospital and transferred to Homagama Base Hospital, where he died on 31.03.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia, sepsis, and acute kidney injury. 03. An 85-year-old male from Panadura. He was diagnosed as infected with the COVID-19 virus while receiving treatment at Colombo National Hospital and transferred to Homagama Base Hospital, where he died on 01.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia and fractured neck of femur. Meanwhile, another 197 new positive cases were reported Thursday (Apr. 01), raising the COVID-19 caseload in the country to 92,917, the Department of Government Information said. As of Friday (Apr. 02), there are 2939 active patients receiving treatment, while 89,407 have recovered. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 9752 people received the COVID-19 jab on Thursday (Apr. 01); and so far, 913,219 people have been vaccinated in the country.
