Traffic Cop filmed assaulting lorry driver interdicted

Colombo (News 1st); The Minister of Public Security has ordered for the interdiction of a Police Constable who was filmed assaulting a lorry driver in Pannipitya on Monday (29) morning.

Sri Lanka Police said the Police Officer seen assaulting a person on a busy road, was identified as one attached to the Maharagama Police Station. Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said the incident had taken place in Pannipitiya and the assault was carried out by a Traffic Police Constable attached to the Maharagama Police Station. The victim of the assault was identified as a lorry driver and according to the police spokesperson the lorry driver had knocked down the Traffic OIC of the Maharagama Police on Monday (29) morning. The traffic OIC is receiving treatment at the Kalubowila Hospital said the Police Spokesperson who stressed irrespective of the offense committed by the lorry driver, Sri Lanka Police does not tolerate assaults by Police Officers, especially those in uniform.
